We are LOCAL! Lexington Tutoring Academy is locally owned and operated by current certified public school teachers in Lexington. Therefore, we understand students’ needs. Our unique style of instruction is not your typical “tutoring." It uses research-based methods that give students the option to incorporate light physical activity, such as pedal desks and balance boards, into their instructional session. Students will receive high quality personalized instruction in an engaging learning environment. Our instructors understand the connection between the brain and the body and use various strategies to help your child succeed academically. And YES, we offer archery lessons too!
Our mission is to provide the best learning experience for all members of our community. We aim to redefine how we learn and push everyone to reach their fullest potential. We teach the whole learner in order to foster community members that contribute to a better world.
Our vision is to become the standard bearer for how we learn in our community in the areas of Academics, Arts, and Athletics.
From one of the owners
Growing up, I liked school, but didn't like to read. This was because I had very poor reading comprehension. As a result, I spent a lot of time after school and during summer breaks at a big corporate learning center sitting in a cubicle practicing reading comprehension with a tutor while all my friends were hanging out at the pool (Can you imagine how thrilled I was to go to tutoring!?). Fast forward a few years to my first year of teaching. I started working as a tutor after school and during the summer. I promised I would make tutoring as fun and active as possible. The school where I worked in Charleston, SC had a classroom called "The Brain and Body Lab," in which the school interventionist used to help struggling students. After seeing its success with those students, I started incorporating some of the flexible seating and sensory motor strategies into my tutoring and saw great results. Fast forward ten years of teaching and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and Lexington Tutoring Academy was born! Perhaps the greater purpose of sitting in that cubicle being bribed (probably more like threatened) to do my work while my friends were at the pool was not just to help me in reading, but rather to allow me to give your child a redefined tutoring experience.
